WHAT IS UP EVERYONE!
Welcome to The Break Room 🔥
Magic City Collectibles is giving me a chance to talk sports cards, card breaks, sports, and a little about myself, which I’m incredibly thankful for.
I’ve been a nurse for the past four years, until the owner of Magic City convinced me to take a leap of faith. It’s been seven months, and I honestly haven’t looked back.
BUT… on to serious business.
Screw the Packers and GO BEARS.
Huge shoutout to my Chicago Bears for an exceptional year one under new head coach Ben Johnson. Caleb Williams is THAT guy, and I’m excited to see how far the Bears can go over the next decade.
Last night, Indiana pulled off a perfect season, capped by winning the College Football National Championship, and it was incredible to watch. The program with the most losses in FBS history beat Miami, and it couldn’t have been a better story. If you didn’t know, Mendoza wanted to walk on at Miami but was turned down. Miami is also his hometown, which made the championship win even sweeter. Now he’s projected to be the number one overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, heading to a rebuilding Las Vegas team. It’s been an awesome start to the New Year in sports, and I can’t wait to see what else 2026 has in store.
For those wondering, my name MJ comes from the GOAT himself, Michael Jordan. I was born in Chicago in ’93, right after his first three-peat. Oak Park REPRESENT!
I’ve been collecting cards since I was a kid. I grew up with Pokémon, and I still remember release day here in the U.S. These days, I collect a solid mix of Pokémon cards and sports cards. Football is my favorite sport, and fantasy football is a major hobby of mine. I’m currently managing 17 teams (9 dynasty, 8 redraft). If you ever need advice, tune into my podcast on Spotify.
I truly believe the sports card hobby and collecting scene is in an incredible place right now. Over the past 2-5 years, there’s been a huge influx of new collectors, which has opened the door for shops to thrive in the breaking scene on platforms like Whatnot and Fanatics Live.
That said, I think some breakers have gotten complacent. They lack charisma and don’t put in the effort to truly engage with the audience. That’s where I come in. My goal is to give viewers a relaxed, informative, and entertaining card breaking experience every single time, whether we’re ripping football, basketball, baseball, or Pokémon.
That’s what you can expect every time you hop on a Magic City Collectibles break either on Whatnot or Fanatics Live. I’m always thankful for the support from the card community, and I’m incredibly excited about the future of Magic City Collectibles.
